The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
