The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

Design circles mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
