The co-creator of Call of Duty, who helped create the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in the state of California at the age of 55.

Zampella's death was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The influential industry figure lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.
