NY Unveils Reporting Tool for Citizens to Report ICE Footage Following Arrests of 4 US Citizens

New York state attorney general has rolled out a recent online portal asking locals to provide images and footage of immigration raids across New York. This step follows a shortly after a high-profile ICE raid disrupted Chinatown in Manhattan, triggering mass outcry.

American Citizens Arrested In Raid

A lawmaker announced during a news conference that four citizens were arrested and detained for "about 24 hours" after the previous day's operation. Rallies broke out in NYC on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"All New York residents has the right to exist without intimidation," state officials declared in a statement.

"Anyone who observed and captured ICE activity during the raid, I urge you to submit that material with my office. We are dedicated to reviewing these reports and evaluating any violations of law."

Submission Process

The form includes spaces to send visual evidence of the incident, along with a field to specify geographic details. When submitting, individuals must mark a box that acknowledges that "the office could utilize any evidence provided in a legal proceeding, including in a legal proceeding or public report."

Information about the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which observers say involved dozens of federal agents, occurred in a well-known neighborhood of NYC where fake products and additional items are regularly available widely – typically to sightseers.

Recordings of the operation depict multiple masked and armed federal agents zip-tying and detaining a person, and forcing aside bystanders. Masses of locals pursued the personnel down the sidewalks. An armored truck was also seen rolling through the city streets.

Official Reactions

At a news conference held with the New York immigrant rights coalition, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, stated that four nationals were detained by ICE for almost a full day and that there were "no conditions where US citizens should be detained for without cause." He noted the individuals were let go on the following day with no accusations made.

"The intent is obvious here. It is not about removing offenders," Goldman said. "This represents a military-style operation to incite tension. It is purely a justification to provoke conflict for this administration to utilize the troops to halt unrest that they initiated."

Extensive Outcry

Fury over the ICE raid escalated – every political contenders denounced the incident, along with the state leader.

"Repeatedly, the Trump administration chooses oppressive displays that instill panic, not safety. It has to end," a contender declared.

NYC community groups expressed outrage also.

"ICE targeted Manhattan's Chinatown with tactical trucks, hooded officers and riot gear to target local sellers attempting to earn income. This action had no relation to citizen protection and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and communities," said the leader of a advocacy group.

Agency Rules

ICE policy prohibits the detention of US citizens and the agency has claimed it does not take into custody American nationals. Yet, independent reporting has discovered that numerous citizens have been held against their will by immigration authorities since the beginning of the existing leadership.

Recent Pattern

Immigration operations have been becoming more common in NY and nationwide recently.

An October operation in central NYC was the first known raid on an immigrant shelter of the existing leadership. Demonstrations opposing federal operations are ubiquitous as are accusations of force and inhumane treatment.

Most recently, a submission provided by civil rights groups alleged inadequate care of pregnant women in ICE facilities.
