LA Battles Historic Heat Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.
After enduring significant rainfall that led to inundation across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now confronting abnormally high conditions for this time of year.
Record-Setting Heat
By Friday afternoon, the mercury climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by weather officials. This exceeds the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established just last year.
"Very warm conditions" were labeled on official maps for the region.
Public Health Advisories
Authorities stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in temperature comes on the heels of a powerful winter storm that battered the state recently. That storm delivered thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to the mountains, leading to evacuation orders for countless residents.

Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict a cooldown will arrive. Readings were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by overnight.
Other locales that hit ninety degrees included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were projected to experience the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown LA can see temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown likely for the start of March.
