Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
