Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Democratic officials expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and punished "through capital punishment" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Recording That Provoked the Dispute

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly served in defense or intelligence positions.

"Like us, you all swore an vow to protect and defend this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the 90-second video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline unlawful commands, you can refuse unlawful commands, you have to decline illegal orders. No one has to carry out commands that break the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Incensed Response

The clip appeared to provoke a heated reaction from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump published on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he wrote: "This is really bad, and Risky to our Country. Their statements cannot be enabled to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials React

Following Trump's statements on that day, Top Democrats published a unified declaration censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no role in America," they wrote. "Congress members who appeared in the video all acted our nation with great patriotism and honor. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful calls for execution against congressional representatives, and urge Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with law enforcement "to make certain the protection of these representatives and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these unhinged online messages and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he leads to violence," the declaration added.

Representatives' Firm Response

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and defense specialists who care for this United States and swore an vow to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, pressure, or incitement will stop us from that sacred responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president considers it punishable by death for us to restate the statutes," they added. "Military personnel should understand that we have their backs as they execute their pledge to the founding principles and obligation to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "All citizens must join forces and denounce the president's requests for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Political Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's comments and shared on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is calling for the death of public representatives."

He added: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this right away and absolutely."

The GOP leader defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", describing the video as "extremely improper", commenting: "This represents very harmful, you have prominent officials of the government advising troops to ignore directives, I think that is unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also according to sources informed media outlets that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the violation of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Is the president want to execute elected officials?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "We see current representatives of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a recorded statement to personnel of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to disobey the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She said: "The sanctity of our defense system relies on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is violated, it can result in casualties, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are fundamentally promoting."
